Curiously enough, English Wiki does not mention that the serfs in Russia were sold and purchased as chattel all the way until the abolition of the serfdom in 1861.
This is apparently related to the current narrative of Blacks being the only chattel slaves of the 19th century. Which is not offensive to me, as of a direct descendant of a chattel "serf" meaning slave in colloquial terms.
It is not offensive, it is just an obvious historical falsehood, leading to a smooth narra...tive convenient for the current power and academic elite.
